This may not be known to many, but the Belum Temengor Forest is one of the oldest rainforests in the world.
Dating back to over 130 million years, Royal Belum is even older than the Amazon and Congo forests. It is even recognised as a hotspot for biodiversity in Malaysia as it hosts diverse ecosystems and habitats for many species of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic, rare, fragile or threatened.

As such, The Royal Belum State Park is on the tentative list to be qualified as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
Preserved and conserved as a State Park, the Royal Belum is an important habitat for large mammals like the Seladang (Gaur) and the Asian Elephant. It is also home to three species of Rafflesia, 10 types of hornbills and a number of endangered animals including Malayan Tigers, Tapirs and Sumatran Rhinos.
